Many Chevy Chase homes have long hall bathrooms where the tub and toilet line up along one wall. Sometimes even the vanity or sink lines up on that wall as well. A long skinny bathroom that might be split into two smaller but wider bathrooms. We recently worked on a home on Western Avenue that was practically asking for a bathroom conversion. At 14′ by 5′, the long and thin bathroom had a bathtub, toilet and sink lined up length-wise along one wall. By gutting and re-framing the room we were able to add one foot on either side. With this extra space we were able to cut the space into two 5′ by 7′ bathrooms. And just like that, our Chevy Chase client went from having 1 ½ bath to 2 ½ bath and increased the value of their home significantly.
Sometimes builders devote a large amount of space to a single room like the master bedroom or family room. The corners of rooms like these can be great spots to install extra bathrooms. Alternatively, many master bedrooms have adjoining small bathrooms. We’re currently working on a bathroom design not far from Chevy Chase that is like this. The master bath had only enough space for a small shower, but there was a relatively large multi-purpose area right next to it. The homeowners decided a larger bathroom would be better and we were able to convert some of the extra master bedroom space into a larger bathroom remodel.
When inspecting your floor plan, our designers will sometimes ask to look at the basement for additional bathroom space, usually the largest open space in homes in Chevy Chase is the basement. Bathroom remodels in basements are especially great because they cause the least amount of disruption for the household above. In addition, many of the elements necessary for a new bathroom, such as water and waste pipes, are already present in basements.
