Silver Spring Maryland Kitchen Remodeler

Signature Kitchens, Additions & Baths, the Rockville-based kitchen design remodeler serving the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, recently completed this exciting kitchen in Silver Spring, MD. The greatest challenge faced by the designer, was the relative lack of space compared to the number of features the homeowner wanted.

The designer took this challenge head-on and designed a beautiful, fully functioning kitchen. Using a number of creative storage solutions, she designed a space that met all of the homeowner’s needs without sacrificing even the smallest bit of style. She was able to do this by using Medallion cabinetry that is specially built to add extra storage space. The pull-out pantry cabinet, in particular, added space by allowing the homeowner to pull out and view the entire contents of the pantry cabinet. These storage solutions and other design ideas that went into the kitchen can be seen in the video to the right.

Another great feature of this kitchen is the environmental friendliness of the products used. Cork flooring is one of the most “green” kinds of kitchen flooring thanks to the Cork Oak Tree’s sustainable harvesting methods. Not only are they good for the environment, but cork floors also feel very comfortable underfoot and act as great insulators against the cold.

As a kitchen remodleler we appreciate the customer who wants us to design in an environmentaly sensitive way. This kitchen remodel also includes green countertops. Icestone is made of 100% recycled glass and cement and is the only countertop to receive the coveted “Gold” level of Cradle to Cradle certification. Look above the Icestone countertops in this kitchen and you’ll see Lumicor “architectural resin panels.” These panels are made of recycled resin and can contribute to large-scale projects aiming for LEED certification.

Though the homeowners did not originally intend to have a green kitchen remodel, the materials they chose just so happened to be green. This is partly because an increasing number of green products are being marketed as attractive alternatives to traditional materials. Another reason for this is that environmentally friendly kitchen materials are becoming more and more affordable.
