Bathroom Remodeling Ideas: Finding the Space

Home Bathroom Remodeling Assessment

In addition to in-place bathroom remodels, we also often get requests for adding bathrooms to a home. If this is what you’d like done with your home, Signature Kitchens, Additions & Baths can thoroughly examine your floor plan and develop custom remodeling ideas. We can find unused space, or a way to more efficiently use space, to put in a brand new bathroom. Read on to see some of the areas in which we’ve had great success finding the space for another bathroom.

Basement Bathroom Remodel

When making this assessment, we like to start in what is usually the largest open space in the house: the basement. A basement location is especially great because it allows our in-house crew of craftsmen to cause the least amount of disruption to your household as possible. Furthermore, there is usually at least one waste stack already coming down to the basement through the first floor.

Long Bathroom Remodel and Conversion

If you have a large hall bathroom, you may have the space to split it into two smaller bathrooms. Many models of town homes in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area have hall bathrooms that can be converted in this way. One such bathroom remodel we worked on was long and thin (14′ by 4’6). The bathtub, toilet and vanity all lined up length-wise on the one wall. We gutted the bathroom and reframed it, widening the space by seven inches on the one side and five on the other, resulting in a space of 14’5″ by 5’1″. We then split this space into two with a partition wall, creating two 5′ by 7′ bathrooms with enough space for both toilets and bathtubs. The client had his home re-appraised after the work was done and since the town home had gone from having 1 ½ bath to 2 ½, the value had increased significantly. Even if your home doesn’t have a long, thin bathroom like this one used to, we have a number of ways to create the space that you seek.

Other Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

Occasionally, builders will devote a disproportionate amount of space to a single room like the master bedroom or family room. A great spot to install an extra bathroom is in corners of rooms like these. On the other hand, many large master bedrooms connect to small bathrooms. We’re currently working on a bathroom remodel in Silver Spring, MD like this. The master bathroom only had enough room for a very small shower, but there was a relatively large make up area right next to it. The homeowners decided they wanted a larger bathroom and we were able to use some of the extra space in their master bedroom.

If you’d like an extra bathroom, or even just a bathroom remodel, come to our showroom to discuss bathroom remodeling ideas with one of our kitchen designers.

Signature Kitchens, Additions & Baths

Each of our designers have had specialized training in Kitchen Design through NKBA, SEN or ASID, not only in style and structure, but in function and arrangement as well. Unlike many Kitchen and Bath companies, we are not a retail store. We are a design, build, and remodeling company, a licensed contractor in Maryland, The District of Columbia and Virginia. So whether you live in DC, Bethesda, Potomac, Olney, Silver Spring, Woodley Park, Adams Morgan, Capitol Hill or anywhere else in the region, Signature KAB can design a Great kitchen, addition, or bath for your home. Not only that, but we can also develop permit-able drawings, process the plans to permit, move the walls, floors and ceilings, install lighting, plumbing, tile, and floor. We can even build the house for you if you would like! So give us a call at: 301.251.1880. You can also email the owner, Gary Case, at Gcase@signatureKAB.com.
